President Donald Trump toasted the potential of the United Nations on Tuesday and appeared to take a sip of wine, a surprising sight as he is a known teetotaler.
Trump addressed the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday, discussing the North Korean nuclear threat, Iran’s threatening regime, the socialist crisis in Venezuela, and other key foreign policy areas, not hesitating to criticize member states.
Trump acknowledged he has been a critic of the U.N. in the past, but he said the potential of the U.N. was “unlimited” and had been impressed by the representatives he had met.
“Let’s give this as a toast to the potential, the great, great potential of the United Nations. Thank you all for being here. Thank you very much,” he said, appearing to take a sip of red wine before handing off the glass.
Trump has stated he does not drink because of the death of his older brother, Fred, stemming from his alcoholism.
